Few cities have a setting like Cape Town: a flat-topped mountain rising behind the city, two oceans meeting at the tip of the peninsula, and vineyards just inland. It is a city for outdoor lovers and food and wine fans alike.

Getting around
Ride-hailing apps are the easiest way to get around the city. Renting a car is ideal for the peninsula and winelands. The MyCiTi bus network covers the airport and main areas. Avoid walking alone after dark in quiet areas.

Excellent value for international visitors: great restaurants and wine at moderate prices. Accommodation spikes over the December–January holidays.

Hike popular trails in groups and at busy times, and tell someone your route.
